Bill Maher Tells the Truth

I never thought that in my lifetime I would be writing an essay praising comedian and commentator Bill Maher. However, Mr. Maher, who classifies himself as a liberal, is one of the few people that can look at his ideological community objectively and freely call out what he considers wrong.

Mr. Maher backs up his statements with hard facts. In a recent program he pointed out that:

“In 1958 only 4% of Americans approved of interracial marriage. As of 2013, 87% approved. “

He then went on to point out that:

“In a country that’s 14% black, 18% of the incoming class at Harvard is black. Since 2017, white students are not even a majority in our public colleges. Employees of color make up 47% of Microsoft, 50% of Target, 55% of the Gap, as companies become desperate to look like their TV commercials.”

Finally, Mr. Maher asks pertinent questions:

“Saying white power and privilege is at an all-time high is just ridiculous. Higher than a century ago, the year of the Tulsa race massacre? Higher than when the KKK rode unchecked and Jim Crow unchallenged?

As Mr. Maher points out to his predominantly young audience:

“There are a helluva lot of Americans trying really hard these days to create a new spirit of inclusion and self-reflection, and this progressive allergy to acknowledging societal advances is self-defeating…Having a warped view of reality leads to policies that are warped – blacks-only dorms and graduation ceremonies, a growing belief in whiteness as a malady and that white people are irredeemable. Giving up on a colorblind society – only if you believe we’ve made no progress does any of that make sense.”

Sure, Mr. Maher clearly states that he feels that there are still corrections to be made and that is fine. But he clearly recognizes that promoting equality while encouraging segregation is contradictory and self-defeating.

In the end, I suspect that there are a great number of liberals who know he is right. I also know that those whose very existence depends on denigrating America and its citizens know Mr. Maher is right. However, as long as pusillanimous personalities like Lin-Manual Miranda keeps bowing these power-hungry phonies they will continue to make unwelcome noise. They depend on people bowing to them. Of course they are free to say what they want, a right they would like to deny to the rest of us, but responsible and rational people should relegate them to the irrelevancy that they deserve.

Bravo to Bill Maher for finally speaking out. I hope more will follow in his footsteps.

  1. Brilliant!!! Bravo!! Well said!! And I could go on…. 👏👏👏👏 thank you, Charles, I agree with everything you said. I’m getting weary of hearing how terrible our ancestors were and not hearing of all the good that accomplished by them. But, many places up here in Ma, if I make a comment, there are people who jump down my throat, even if I’m not saying anything wrong, so narrow minded they are. This country will not survive with their “my way or the highway” mentality.
    Thank you.

  2. I enjoy watching clicks of Bill Maher. Even if I disagree with him on many things, he’s more interested in truth, reason, common sense, and sanity than in having a bunch of fanatics “win”. It is no wonder that he used to host the show “Politically Incorrect”.
